Shuwen Wang |
Hello! My name is Shuwen Wang and I became an
international student ambassador at the end of Fall 2012, the second semester I
studied at SBCC. The ambassador program allowed me to interact with individuals
and families from different backgrounds among the Santa Barbara community.
I transferred to UCLA in 2014 and studied two years over there to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. Right after graduation, I went back to China and started to work at TFC (Teach for China) as a teaching fellow for a two-year program. Starting in September 2016, I became a Chemistry teacher for 9th grade students at a village school in China.
After I finished the program at TFC, I started applying to graduate programs. Now, I am heading to Columbia University School of Social Work for my Master’s degree in New York City! I am still very thankful for the experience I had as an international student at SBCC, which developed my skills in working with people. SBCC also gave me the motivation and commitment into a service career.
A great resource for transferring to UCLA is the
Transfer Center at SBCC. They offer workshops on how to fill out the
applications for UC’s and CSU’s. There are nine UC’s you can apply to transfer
to. The Transfer Center also offers workshops on tips for personal statement
essays. During the fall semester, they have “Transfer Day,” where over 70
universities visit SBCC and have a table with information. This sure helps you
make a decision on which schools to apply to!
"Transfer Day" happens every fall semester! |
